It's OK

This cup is way overpriced and isn't that great. My kids had trouble learning to drink from a straw- especially with a valve on it. Because of the cost though, I wouldn't recommend purchasing from this company. Babies R Us have them much cheaper.
Great first cup for a bottle fed baby

These sippy cups are great for my 11 month old. We started using sippy cups at around 8 months but he couldn't figure out how to tilt the cup up far enough to sip it and we ended up laying him down so he could drink it. Not much different from a bottle. The idea was to get him to drink while sitting up or on the go and off of the bottle. The straw in these cups helps him get all the liquid and he likes to "chew" on it in between sips because it's soft silicone, even though he has no teeth yet. He doesn't have a problem biting down on the straw to get the liquid out, but I can see this being a problem for babies exclusively breastfed since they wouldn't be used to using a bottle nipple. It doesn't leek unless there is liquid in the very tip of the straw and it really doesn't even leak from there, my son just likes to flick the fluid out causing a mess. The lids fit other nuby sippy cup products too so that is convenient if you're in need of a base and don't have a clean one. They are easy to clean too, we just shove the silicone straw on a spoke in the top rack of the dishwasher and it doesn't move. The white plastic straw goes in the part where the silverware goes. All in all it's a good cup for beginners... we plan to graduate to a regular cup soon, but for now these do what we need them to in order to wean him from the bottle. I hope this helped!
Unhappy with straw

My 8 month can only do straws as she isnt could with tilting cups. She cant figure out how to get liquid out of the straw on this cup. You have to bite down and suck at the same time, its hard for even me to get something out of it. Will go with non leak guard straws from now on.
Had to return to the store

I loved the idea of a soft, straw-type sippy cup with handles, but it simply was too difficult to drink from. I tried it myself, and it was extremely difficult. I'm returning it to the store for a refund. I can't imagine any baby being able to drink from the cup I have. (Maybe I have the one-in-a-million faulty cup and all the rest are great, but all I can say is the cup I have is the pits.)
Good for a teething baby

We tried several types of sippy cups before finally discovering that the Nuby straw cup was the right match for our son. He's been teething since 3 months old and chewed on all the other sippy cup nozzles rather than drinking from them, not to mention the difficulty he's had trying to control the flow speed and hold the cup up high enough to get liquid out at the same time -- it was just too much. He's now 8 months, and last week it finally occurred to me to try a Motts for Tots juice box to see how he'd adjust to sipping/controlling the straw...to my pleasant surprise, he was able to do it (with my help to start). I bought these cups as soon as I could and we haven't looked back. I think his teething helps with the problem that some have mentioned below...the flow guard on the straw does require pressure to get anything out, but since my son chews anyway, it actually works in his favor. It's been amazing to see him playing on the floor and on his own, reach for his cup and sip water from it. I'm very pleased because I finally feel like I'm helping him to be so dependent on his bottle feedings for hydration.
